Step into a world of grandeur and elegance as you explore the countryside once favored by wealthy Dutch merchants during the Golden Age. This half-day excursion includes a scenic drive along the picturesque River Vecht, lined with historic mansions and country estates built as summer retreats from Amsterdam.
The highlight of the tour is a visit to Castle De Haar, the largest and most visited castle in the Netherlands. With its dramatic towers, moats, and fairytale silhouette, the castle looks medieval—but its current form was completed in the early 20th century. Parts of the original structure date back to the 1300s, and the castle’s revival was led by renowned architect P.J.H. Cuypers.
Inside, explore richly decorated rooms filled with an eclectic collection of antiques gathered by the aristocratic family who rebuilt the castle. History lovers will appreciate the layered stories of feuds, invasions, abandonment, and restoration—while everyone will marvel at the sheer beauty of the setting.
Please note: some steep, tight and spiral staircases required. There is no boat tour included on this trip.
